motorcycle touring holiday Germany Europe classic Ducati Bimota Superbike experience
With around 20 people registered to join us for the ride over to Schotten for the Annual Oldtimer Grand Prix, it was great to have such perfect weather on the day, with glorious sunshine right from early morning.
As well as those that had stayed in the local hotel, visitors started to arrive with plenty of time before the planned leaving time of 10 o'clock so we could all enjoy meeting up with a coffee and a chat.
Silke and Peter chatting amongst the bikes.
Our Gitan Grillo sport which might grow a few more cc if it's stands in the flower bed.
And Richards Ducati Panigale which he rode over from the UK the day before.
Peter arrived on his very special Bimota SB6, special because it is fitted with one of only 3 single sided rear swingarms produced by a German tuning company.
Peters' bike is also in immaculate condition and gets riden often, sometimes for some laps of the Nürburgring where he is an instructor.
Kates' Ducati Multistrada only had to come from Frankfurt and Sam rode his Moto Guzzi Le mans Mk1 from Marburg, which is about 60km north.
I choose my favourite, the Ducati Mike Hailwood Replica for the Saturday ride, here fitting the Go Pro camera to the fairing, wouldn't like to miss anything.
Andreas on his 'cafe' modified Ducati 996 arrived with 6 other riders accompanied by the rattling of the Ducati dry clutches.
Arriving back home from Schotten, still the Hailwood ahead of Glens' Panigale R !
Quite a crowd gathering in front of The Crankcase. farmhouse and yard.
Every type of bike is welcome, old and new.
Daniel trys the Bimota SB6R, maybe a replacement for his Suzuki Bandit ?
Father Bernd produced some great delicacies from the grill including Currywurst (curry sausage) with his own homemade sauce.
Many thanks too to those who helped prepare the buffet and salads, a great sucess for which we have heard fitting compliments.
Current neighbour, Ducati 848 riding Kim meets Harley riding 'Messing' who coincidentally lived just one door down, but all of 23 years ago !
Another coincidence, the village festival was held at the same time and almost in the same place, just across the road which only added to the atmosphere.
What's more to say?
Great to have so many come to visit us, with or without bikes.
Enjoy some good food, great entertainment and meeting some great people.
Pride of place went to Toms' Ducati Paul Smart replica parked right where nobody could miss it.
Just as well, it really sets the scene.
